This assessment is a case study which requires students to analyse an ethical dilemma faced and propose an ethical course of action.

Step 1: Write a 500-Word Ethical Analysis Explain the Ethical Dilemma (150 words) • What is the main challenges Thandi faces in this case? Consider Relevant Factors (200 words) • How does mental health and substance abuse stigma impact Zanele’s reluctance to seek help? Propose an Ethical Course of Action (150 words) • If you were in Thandi’s position, what steps would you take to address the situation? Use the ethical guidelines covered in this module to guide these recommendations • How can Thandi communicate her decision to Zanele while maintaining trust and ethical integrity?

Case Study Zanele is a dedicated employee in the operations team at a manufacturing company. Recently, her punctuality has become a concern as she has been arriving late to work on several occasions. Thandi, the Human Capital (HC) manager, who also offers informal counselling support within the company, decides to speak with Zanele privately about her tardiness. During their conversation, Zanele reveals that she is struggling with a substance abuse issue, which has been affecting her ability to arrive on time and perform her duties effectively. She expresses deep concern about the consequences of her disclosure and requests that this information be kept strictly confidential, fearing damage to her reputation and possible job loss. At the same Thandi is aware of how important it is for Zanele to able to perform her duties well, as the safety of the Zanele's team could be impacted if this is compromised. Thandi feels torn about how to proceed in this situation.
